What to Expect
Consultation & Planning
To ensure the treatment plan meets your needs, I will spend time in your first appointment to get to know you, to understand your health history and assess your current range of movement.
I will also seek to understand your expectations to ensure we are aligned, for example, discussing how long it will likely take to see an improvement in your condition.
I will identify key markers that we will use throughout your treatment programme to measure the progress we are making. These markers will directly relate to your end goals, which may be, being able to run without pain, re-gaining full movement in your neck, reducing stiffness in your back or reducing feelings of stress.
The aim of this stage is for us to be aligned in terms of what you are seeking and how I plan to work with you to reach the agreed goals over the course of treatments.
I will use a range of massage techniques, depending on the pain/symptoms you have and using my clinical judgement and experience of what will be most effective.
I will use massage on and around the areas of pain and if you are interested in understanding more, I can explain what I'm doing and why.
I use a pain scale of 1 to 10, and will ask you to report to me how different areas feel during the treatment. This is an extremely effective technique to ensure the pressure is comfortable and meets your expectations.
I am trained to use active stretching and muscle engagement techniques that I have found to be essential in building muscle capability and increasing client confidence in their body, which are key steps in the treatment programme.
A massage treatment, even as part of a regular treatment programme, is only one hour a week or a month. The remaining time you will be living your routines, possibly reverting back to movements that may not be conducive to a speedy recover, or perhaps you are not moving enough to effect the adaptations required to develop your muscle capability.
For this reason, and because I'm passionate about helping people out of pain, I offer a service whereby I create a bespoke plan for you to follow at home, based on the equipment you have or have not got access to. I will also build the movements in line with your level of activity and importantly, in line with what you feel is reasonable. The movement plan can be created as a video for you to easily follow along and listen to my cues, to ensure you are performing the movements optimally.
I am also trained in sports taping, which is an excellent aid for injury recovery or for offloading muscles or joints that are painful.
Please Note. In line with Government guidelines, you will be sent a Covid 19 screening form and consultation form. Both need to be completed before the appointment. To find out more, please visit my Covid 19 information page.
